I recently had problems that the batterie on my Macbook Pro would not charge, or only sometimes.
Think I ifxed it for now by resetting the SMC, and PRAM. This weekend it was charging fine.

Has anyone had a similar problem, and should I take my Book for a checkup?

Also noticed as I was watching this phenomen, that it takes a few minutes until it shows the chraging icon when you plug in the power adapter.

And as an additional problem, I have a second batterie which I have to damit it lay spare for the last 6 months, it seems this one doenst take any charge, even after the resets, had it in for more than an hour without any changes.
Any Ideas if it still can be saved?

If its broken its not such a big deal it was the orignal batterie of the Book, whice I should have sent back in the exchange program. smile.gif Thought I keep it as an emergency backup.

you should send it back for being exchanged, never bad to have a fonctional extra battery smile.gif
personaly I never heard of this delay in displaying battery/charging icon
Boomer
Maybe did word it wrong, the icon is there, it shows that its connected to the power adapter. But not displaying the little flash it does when it charges. This takes a few minutes till it appears.

Now that would be nasty sending the batterie back and demanding a new one. As I should not have it anymore. Should have sent it back when tehy sent me the last replacement.
I am not that bold to try something like that smile.gif

Thought to let you all know, after tinkering around for some time I found the problem why my MBP doesnt charge or only charges sometimes.

It has been getting worse since I posted, one of the batteries allways showing the wrong charge. And I think I fired one permantently smile.gif

The culprit was the powersupply. I bought a new one and now it works fine.
My main battery shows the charge right and I treid it a few times over the weekend by unplugging the powersupply and then charging it again.

The second one seems to be dead now forever. sad.gif

Guess its a bit of a desingflaw in the magsave adapter, witht he thin cable and the small plug, there seems to be no place where the tension can be releived, so if something pulls on the cable it probably pulls on the connection in the plug as well, breaking it over time.
And that small plug is hard to grasp so you allways pull a bit on the cable when detaching it. Pulled straight the magsave adapter holds quite strong and you can pull your MBP across the table with it.

Lets see if they exchange the powersupply.

did you miss those news?

it seems that Apple is also experiencing problems with MB Pro battery (15" and 17") but it seems to affect a small number of units; but you might have been unlucky.
Boomer
Seems I missed it, or jsut forgot about it as my problems started in jannuary.

But the once thoguht dead battery seesm to work again, obviously just needed some more love from my NB to work.

And the one thats now at about 60% capacity is an exchanged one, so could be thats the problem.

Will tkae teh battery and the old powersuply to my store and let them check it.
Boomer
So after all the issue seems finally at an end.

A week ago I took the half dead battery and teh erratic acting powersuply to my store, and after a few days got both replaced. Now it works.

My Macbook Pro is ringing up a nice repairhistory. In my now nearly 20 years with computers all togehter before were not that often at the service as this little thing in a bit more than half a year.

Boomer, congrats. That's good news. It is becoming a habit that Apple runs up such problems. That said, the other brands are no less fortunate either. @least Apple is still up to par in most aspects.
