It is almost amusing to see that what is likely to become the principal announcement of Macwold Expo is a Microsoft application. The company indeed revealed the first steps of Office 2011 which will be released by the end of the year.

Microsoft has put the accent on 3 points with this new version:

  • To improve compatibility between the platforms
  • Improvement of the collaborative tools
  • Improvement of the user interface.

Microsoft engage with this that a document created on a platform (Mac or Windows) is completely identical when transferred to the other platform.
The user interface will be more practical according to Microsoft.

A pity that they do not offer vertical version, since this is very practical especially with the screens 16:9 of the iMac that has much more place in width than in height.
On another note, Visual BASIC will return in this edition and will be identical to the Windows version for a perfect compatibility.
Outlook, will replace Entourage and be finally really compatible with Time Machine, by this we mean that it will avoid having to backup each time the entire data base, something that is deeply aggravating.

If anyone needs Microplop apps they can run in vmWare Fusion, in that way contain the contamination.
