Support to allow users to post and support other members

Hardware and maybe a Software board?

Random Banter for chat about anything?

The key of creating a great forum (it really depends on what you guys want to do with it) is to have variety and lots of places for people to meet and chat, not just discuss the Mac.

this is planned smile.gif
we are working on it, it needs to be organized into categories as well as subgroups.
it should be there beginning of next week.
Having hte forum in this current format was also a test for us to get your feedback and evaluate how many members will be around or willing to join.
So, the current forum is just born, it should be mature within a week maximum.

Is there a real need to work on the organization and the categories ? How about creating the same boards as the ones on the french forum. Or maybe only the most popular ones ?

Anyway, thanks for providing an english forum :-)

I would say : for now, keep the main forum categories as in french boards. If the frequentation increase fast, then we would see to add also the subforums.

Err, no, now I think I would like little changes :

I'm amazed by your courage! The workload it's going to be if it reaches the same popularity as the french version.... I guess it will.

Good luck guys.

I'm quite curious about who's-who there: members of the french version having a new account, or total strangers...
WOuld it be possible to have visible info about:
Member of the "macbidouille temple"...
Or previously lost soul that just saw the light and is registering for the first time...

May the force be with you.

I'm not so sure about these on a hardmac forum. Of course there is bootcamp and so all those windows stuff coming on under MacOS but why not stick on our favorite OS.

Hi there...!
it is pretty great now having an english version here!
The only question is about how now create a true relationship between the french and the english forum!
So imagine an interesting answer or discussion to be on a forum but not on the other, maybe it won't be the best deal for all the communauty...
It would be interesting to include // dynamic links between the both forums, such i.e.

###This Topic xxx### in http://forum.macbidouille.com/ with an information such i.e.

"this topic is also in discussion on http://forum.hardmac.com/

or: "this topic exist in Fr or En only...".

But maybe it is not technically realistic! all depends how Invision Power Board could allows it huh.gif
Diurn
i think that's gonna be pretty complicated... but it would definately be useful for big topics( such as, a widely recognised problem, well recognised by everyone but Apple ofc ) , stickies etc..

Well... there is no technical limitation to that. After all, it's just one more hyperlink.
But there won't be any need for it. I'm afraid the bulk of the knowledge base will allways remain on Macbidouille, and a hyper-link in an English-language website to a French-language one will be of marginal interest only. If the guy (or the gal) understands French, s(he) might as well do the research in Macbidouille straight away. If s(he) doesn't, no use for the link... Well in both cases no use for the link indeed wink.gif

I know wink.gif
For the moment, there is no section available to host these kind of games...

When (if ?) the forum gets new sections (such as Hardware, OSX, etc.), there will be Misc section where you can post (almost tongue.gif ) anything you want but right now, it is kinda strange having a big post with things which do not have anything at all related to the Mac rolleyes.gif

Wait and see smile.gif

Idea for the forum: I'd like to see a list of 20 recent topics/post in the left or right sidebar on hardmac's homepage. A good example of a 'hot topic list' is http://www.macfreak.org/ (in dutch, 'recent topiclist' is on the right). Such a list really livens up the forum because it requires less clicks to join a thread or topic.
Cri-cri
I forwarded this request to the admins wink.gif

For the moment it does not really make sense as the topics are only about the news... so they are on the website wink.gif but for the future, this a good idea (but asit changes the structure of the website, I can not promise anything wink.gif )

...just below the 'HardMac's Blog' is just about enough space for that. Move the 'LINKS' upward to the right of 'PARTNERS' et voila. And no change of layout needed. In fact it would make both left and right side-columns more symmetrical.

As for changing the site layout, I think it is a good idea, even if it is done later, once the forums are cruising well enough…

And on the subject of hanging at both HM forums and MB ones, french-writing readers don't have to dual post especially : as soon as HM has its own community, it will provide with enough threads, flamewars and locked posts! ;-)

And there won't be the same threads on both boards, except for the News threads: so, I don't see how we would have to dual post. For now, it is just that the threads are about the news, hence the same subjects covered on MB boards.

Just a question to the HM team : can we expect to have different articles on MB and HM respective sites?
MB is sometimes very focused on France-centered subjects (ie FNAC & Darty retailers and their Apple corners etc.) and HM will surely attract a big english-speaking community, more interested in some US-only subjects. So, I think there should be a common ground of Apple-news coverage and ALSO specific subjects : software products like Intuit Quickbooks or Powerschool, US or Australian retailers events etc.

So this is my question : is there some HM-only news in the works?

We can publish some HM-only news, but in most cases, we try to give additional information, as you mention FNAC-related stories, when it might be interesting to illustrate relationship between Apple and its reseller networks, the news is published on Hardmac too.
When it does not bring any valuable information to our non-French readers, we simply do not publish it.
Some news might appear first on HM before to be translated into French on MB.
Some news are when it deals with the website itself, but as the MacBidouille team include all members, those taking care of MB and HM, it is only one big team smile.gif So when something is interesting it might appear on both sites.
For sure Hardmac forum will be independent of MacBidouille forum, but the spirit should be the same: be different and serve the community
