Along with the new Mac laptops, Apple gave more details about the next version of OSX during the WWDC Keynote. Out of the announced 200 new features that will be available with the public release this July, a few of them were showcased:


  1. A better integration of iCloud with new applications, coming straight from iOS: Messages, Reminders, Notes, and also the ability to interact with other apps, such as iWork applications and in the future other apps developed through the OS X SDK.
  2. A new notification center, also adapted from iOS with a scrolling menu allowing to check all the notifications coming from different applications such as Mail, social networks, etc.
  3. Vocal recognition, which will allow to dictate text, even to third party applications.
  4. A new version of Safari with new features allowing to see all the tabs open on all iCloud devices, and a new tabs display allowing to zoom out to see other pages open.
  5. Power nap, a new feature that will allow the computer to perform certain tasks while the Mac is sleeping, such as Updates, iCloud sync, etc. These tasks will be light enough to be accomplished without having the fans running so you don't get disturbed by the noise. (compatible only with the 2nd Generation of MacBook Air and the Retina MacBook Pro, meaning only the laptops that only come with SSDs)
  6. Integrated AirPlay for both music and video mirroring.
  7. Game Center, another App adapted from iOS.
  8. Improved versions of Preview and Air Print.
  9. A new sharing tool across all applications, such as Preview, Quick Look, Mail, Safari, etc.
  10. Extra features for China.


Mountain Lion will be available in July for $19.99. Just like for Lion, you can purchase one license and install it on all your Macs with a single Apple ID.
