Sorry if some of this does not make too much sense, as always, please research carefully and beware that THIS VIOLATES YOUR DRIVE WARRANTY. Also, I don't speak French, so only the English version of this description is here.

As for HEA/ HEB etc. all those funny terminology, you'll need to read up more on the "RPC-1" processes.

I was bored so I went back to my collection of DVDs and some were Region 1 and some were Region 3, recently I was in UK so it was Region 2.

Went to this page,

Could not run the GUI updater (Ben11's)

So I ran the command line part (marked in bold)

You need to download the "SimpleFlash.zip" file, unpack it and then run it using the terminal. e.g. assuming you have downloaded the archive file to your desktop you can unpack like this:


ben11s-computer:~ ben11$ cd Desktop
ben11s-computer:~/Desktop ben11$ unzip SimpleFlash.zip
ben11s-computer:~/Desktop ben11$ cd SimpleFlash

to use the utility you start it using ONE of the following commands:

./simple_flash 0 UJ857-HAEA-MBP-rpc1.dat

or

./simple_flash 0 UJ857-HBEA-MB-rpc1.dat

or

./simple_flash 0 UJ857D-KBVB-MB-rpc1.dat

or

./simple_flash 0 UJ857D-KCVB-MBP-rpc1.dat

Yay! I now have region free MacBook DVD. Didn't test much else so I hope burning, etc is okay. I'm probably slow to the party, but, didn't find much Leopard info for 2008, so I thought I'd share. The changing of the version in CoreServices version PLIST didn't work for me.

Edit: You must also run the latest version of RegionX once the drive is made RPC-1. Use DVDInfoX to check before running RegionX for the first time.

Hey just for the record, i have tested this on many Macs and it works.
actually Apple deleted my post on their forums maybe because i found out...
but here is the solution once and for all without software or firmware or flashrom and all that nonsense.

first remove folder in - User/Libary/Application Support/DVD Player : trash the seetings folder inside.
second remove file in - User/Libary/Prefrences : com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist - trash that file
Third go to Application Right click on DVD Player, choose SHOW PACKAGE CONTENTS - trash the folder inside the DVD PLayer. Empty the trash. now you can play any dvd from any region forever. Region Free Drive.
You cant use the dvd player anymore but the system thinks it still there. So Use the VLC player.
Hope this is helpful for every one.

PS: if you cant find the 'hidden' User/Libary - folder here is the way to make it visible again in your user folder.

Show User ~/Library in OS X Lion & Mountain Lion
Launch Terminal from Spotlight or Launchpad -> Utilities, and enter the following command to show or hide the directory:
chflags nohidden ~/Library/
