The Firmware update did not fix a thing. A colleague of mine, for whatever reason, has had to send his 24" iMac back 4 times for various faults, scratches etc... BUT every iMac ran the XP Setup without the black screen...
Apple must be aware of this... I think another update or a recall are in order. James. |

I think the first question to answer is: Does the recent iMac24" still have this problem? If yes, then the problem remains unsolved by Apple at the manufacturing level If no, then the problem has been solved, it would confirm a hardware problem; but Apple has to make clear that unlucky iMac24" owners are illegible for a recall or exchange program. No supporting Boot Camp, does not imply that one can not use it, and Apple can not advertise of dual Boot if some models can not use it. The problem will be fixed if customers keep pressuring Apple; and websites reporting about the problem. One should also keep tracking common features to all BootCamp uncompatibile iMac24". |

I just tried to call apple and tell them I can't deal with this issue anymore - their phone support is no longer user friendly and I have no idea how to talk to a real representative. It gave me another number for tech support, but I Can't hear the recording hardly and it doesn't sound like it would help. the "Returns" department on the menu brings you to an area describing order status, etc. Anyone know what to do? |

Where are you located? I never had problem to get a human support on the phone in Europe. Returns are for tracking hardware exchange or repair procedure, in your case you need to get an agreement from one Apple stuff to get your iMac replaced; since it does not run Boot Camp and can not use dual boot as advertised by Apple. |

She is trying to pawn it off to a Microsoft Issue. ha So she can't really help over the phone, she is trying to get me off the phone, so i asked to speak with a product spe######t if one was available. She is jsut finishing up the notes on the case, and is going to transfer me. This post has been edited by Flyinace2000: Nov 16 2006, 09:49 PM |

It WILL get fixed. Whether it be a firmware update, or a part that needs replacing or giving users a new machine, it will be dealt with because when Leopard ships, BootCamp will be part of the OS.
Apple can't possibly expect to say "All Intel Macs can boot Windows (except for some random 24" iMacs)" If some iMacs run with no problem but others don't then that is a defect and they WILL deal with it. It's just a matter of time. Unfortunately, it may be sometime in the spring of 2007 BTW, I got XP running on my previously black screen iMac by using a miniDVI to VGA connector. Looks like hell on my 20" LCD monitor (VGA won't allow for the monitor's native 1400x1050 res. so the fonts are all jaggy at any resolution). It's a workaround, and I'll take it for now since I'm only playing City Of Heroes, but it's still not acceptable. |

Ok guys
I will look around on our french forum to get info in this side, then I will psot a news next week about it. the firmware update has fixed the issue with Radeon X1900 Mac Pro and 23" and Boot Camp, so Apple knows about it... now are they really pushing to get it fixed?? I do not know where you are located, but in Europe you could claim to get it replace since Apple advertises that Boot camp should work on it... you could go to the court for abusing advertisement |

One thing I have noticed since getting XP installed on my iMac is that the Brightness controller in XP that comes with Boot Camp actually affects my iMac's screen.
In other words, when I'm in XP (using my second monitor through miniDVI to VGA adapter) and I adjust the brightness, my iMac's blank screen actually gets brighter and darker. Now it's still blank but there's something definitely happening when I adjust the brightness. Not sure if this helps or doesn't make a difference. |

I could boot into windows with adjust the brightness of the main screen while using an external monitor. |

I installed BF1942 and it works great.. but it's on my tiny external LCD, which sucks. This is so annoying, I hate it. |

After installing using a external LCD, i was apple to use the brightness control. It would lower the internal LCD's brightness up and down.

I am really jonesing for some gaming.
Are there any other outlets that we can let our problem be known? Calling Apple care seems to have little affect. Some email we could send, or even better, a letter? Paper still holds a great amount of power when voicing a complaint. |

I want to use my internal display. It's also a waste of deskspace, on top of all the other conveniences.. This blows |

For people based in the UK - I think we have astrong case for the Advertising Standards Authority. As Apple has 'claimed' that their macs "Do Windows Too" and in fact they DON'T!!! You could post something here...
http://www.asa.org.uk/asa/how_to_complain/complaints_form/ This will get us our much needed "meda" attention. James. |
