Guys this might be one of teh stupidest questiosn ever asked, but I tried varoius ways and could nt get teh result I wanted.
My Problem: I want to copy a diretory containing subdirectories and files from one HD to the other. Onle on the target there is a directory with the same name, containing some of the subdirectores and files and and some files which are not in teh direcotry I want to copy over. So what I would like is to merge the content of the two directories. If I drag it now to where I want I get the message that teh direcotry exists and if I want to replaced it, sying yes it replaces it completely, by saying no it just aborts the copy. Any hints? Funny thing is when I do it from the subdirectories drectly from the files it works as I want, replacing the duplicate files adding the ones not there and leaving the others alone. AS the directory contains about 3 GB of data in varoius subdirectories this is not an ideal solution. |

Guys this might be one of teh stupidest questiosn ever asked, but I tried varoius ways and could nt get teh result I wanted. I would advise to rename all original subdirectories with "old" as extension, then copy all subdirectories into the new location then manually trash the old duplciate ones.My Problem: I want to copy a diretory containing subdirectories and files from one HD to the other. greg that works with one directory.
But I have one directory containing many subdiretories which sometimes as well contain directories and then files. And if Id rag the source onthe the target it will be completely replaced. And even if that gets me a ban for life here. It works in a windows enviroment, if I do the same there it asks if its should replace the doubles and will leave the other files alone |

i'm not sure if this would work, just some suggestions (not tested):
1) try modifier keys when copying (i.e. option, option+shift etc) 2) 3rd-party software that kinda value-adds the Finder commands sorry for not being able to give a more definite answer. |

To test with dumbs files and folders before (fake one)
Maybe you can achieve that with "Carbon Copy Cloner" wich copy content (files) over already existing structure of folder inside folders etc... This post has been edited by ParanoX: Jun 15 2007, 03:36 PM |
