IDC published a preliminary report about its latest market suty relating to tablets. It shows that Apple still largely dominates the tablets market compared to all the competitors of the iPad running Android even if the sales numbers this last quarter are less impressive than in the previous one, which was predictable as that previous one was the one of the Christmas period.During the first quarter, it is estimated that Apple sold 11.8 million iPads, while that figure reached 15.4 million during the previous quarter. Despite this decrease in shipping numbers, the market share of the iPad grew from 54.7% at the end of 2011 to 68%.The reason of that increase is the rather large decrease in Android tablets sales numbers. For example, Amazon sold 48 million Kindles in Q4 2011, reaching a market share of 16.8%. The sales plummeted in 2012 and the market share fell to 4%. In the mean time, Samsung and Lenovo were able to maintain themselves at an even level and even gained some market share that was lost by Amazon. Samsung has now become the second biggest tablet seller in the world but is still far behind Apple.
