Globalfoundries, the old manufacturing division of AMD processors become autonomous and playing the part of manufacturer of chips on demand have released from its factories the first chips engraved in 20 nm. For the moment they are only prototypes aiming at finishing the last adjustments before production.
This is a good news because now there will be more players engraving under the 30 nm and thus more quickly the consumers should profit from it, especially as chips engraved more finely can be more powerful for the same consumption or more powerful at equal power. However it seems very probable that the first products engraved around the 20 nm which will arrive in the trade will be the processors Ivy Bridge of Intel (engraved of 22 nm) whose release is always planned for the end of the first quarter 2012.
