Hi there.
It works for me. 24 iMac 256vram, 2Gb, 500HD BUT If windows crashes, which games causes it a lot. Or if I restart directly from OS X, the display shows a lot of garbage. The first time I thought I've blown up my iMac or something like that. So to use windows, I turn off the computer, wait a bit.. (god I hate waiting for computers...) and then turn it on. I use windows for games and this computer is handling every one I throw at it beautifully. regards gorka |

I meant iMac Intel concerning external drive, it could be both (optical drive or HD containing the image of SP2) you should try to wait about 30 minutes only to be sure that what we have seen as lag phase during installation in our article is not simply repeating the same way for you. Did you look at the last hints I have psoted concerning drivers? Have you tried to start up from a LinuxCD (knoppix CD for example), simply to be sure that it is not a problem with the optical drive firmware. hear from you soon |

Just saw your post over in the Apple forums (I'm KevinBrahl1) and thought I'd add my experience.
24" iMac/2gb RAM/7600GT 256/250 gb HDD Windows XP SP2 Retail Basically seeing what everyone with this problem is reporting. iMac boots with the Windows XP disc but you can't see anything but a blank screen, and the screen isn't "off", it's blank. I say that because it is a slightly lighter shade of black than when the screen is actually not on. Anyway, I can hear the iMac boot and I know it's doing something because when I arrow up/down I can hear it churn away. If I knew the XP install routine I could probably do it blindfolded but I don't have enough experience to guess which step is which. Using an external monitor also does not work for me. I've tried booting with my 20" Acer LCD connected, I've tried plugging it into the iMac AFTER it has booted to the cd and neither way has worked. The LCD just says "No Signal" and goes blank. I have tried waiting for at least 15 minutes after bootup. I can't imagine that waiting any longer will help but I'm willing to try anything. I don't know how to make a slipstreamed disk. I assume you put the latest drivers on there and then boot from it? I do have a PC I can use, I just don't know how to do it. Thanks in advance for any help! |

Thanks
- did you try to boot from another WinXP CD/DVD? - did you try to boot from a LinuxCD? - Did you reinstall Tiger when you got your iMac, or have you kept the pre-install version? |

I too have an iMac 24" which I purchased over a month ago. It is experiencing these same black screen issues upon the Windows XP setup. Apple will fix this, itÂ’s juts a matter of time. My thoughts are still that BootCamp is BETA and by next spring when 10.5 is released it will support ALL Intel based Macs (It has to otherwise Apple will need to dish out a lot of refunds). Until then, itÂ’s just a waiting game. I have been monitoring a lot of posts across many websites regarding this issue, in fact I was one of the early ones to find it ad report back. Just be patient. Apple have done a good job covering themselves with this by stating to their staff (and clearly on their website) that they DO NOT SUPPORT WINDOWS or the BETA version of BootCamp so asking for a replacement machine is really up to AppleÂ’s discretion. My advice would be fire an e-mail to "bootcamp@apple.com" stating your machines serial and hardware config and possibly your firmware version (It all helps). I am in the same boat as all of you and I am too very frustrated. I will be starting my own blog regarding this very soon to try and find out which serials (or range of serials) are affected. I will keep you all updated if I find out any more. James. ACSA/MCSE |

Could you provide the serial number of your iMac 24"?
a team member has a iMAc24" too, and apparently everything is fine for him, we could look at serial, because I think it might explain some things out there. |

Thanks - I don't have another WinXP CD/DVD to try - did you try to boot from another WinXP CD/DVD? - did you try to boot from a LinuxCD? - Did you reinstall Tiger when you got your iMac, or have you kept the pre-install version? - I don't have a LinuxCD - The first thing I do with every new Mac I buy is reinstall the OS Actually, I tried installing XP as soon as I took it out of the box, THEN I reinstalled the OS hoping that that would make a difference. Also, I tried XP with 10.4.7 and 10.4.8. I'm not at my Mac atm so I can't give you my serial, but I will when I get home. Oh, and I tried waiting again today. Let it sit for over an hour. Nothing. |

after reading Apple forum, it turns out that one user could not even reinstall OSX on its iMac after WinXP installation failed. The optical drive is not recognized anymore, or can not force to boot from it anymore.

My iMac s/n: W86361TXVGN Spec is: 2.16MHz/1GB/7300GT I contacted Applecare today, I already knew what the answer would be ("don't know sir"). I was indeed correct. I did point out the recent posts and forums dedicated to this issue but speaking to the front line staff is a waste of time, I would like to speak to the developers! Can we possibly setup a database to store s/n of affected iMacs? I believe this issue only occurs on units that were purchased shortly after the 24" model was released as I had one of the first units my supplier managed to get hold of. James. |

James. you can start collecting the serial from this topic, there is not problem with that: simply get the serials as a quote and add yours: something like: QUOTE Not working iMac:

We need to get more serial numbers to make it valuable.
I also think one will need to get additional information concerning the optical drive sitting in the non compatible BootCamp iMac (might be different manufacturer or firmware). Should also look at GPU firmware, puzzling that iMac with different GPU are equally affected we are going to publish an update: it seems that there are 2 different SMC versions for the iMac24": In France so far, the status seems to follow this rule: - 1.10f1 => blank display - 1.10f2 => Windows works |

Is it a mistake in your message ? I confirm mine is 1.10f2 as well and in the not working category. My SMC version is 1.10f2 as also does not work - As stated above. |
