Lighthouse
This seems very promising, esp. for newbies or those who like a simple way to manage port-mapping/forwarding. p.s. if i didn't read wrongly, it appears to have "mapping on demand as well" i.e. when an app. is started, it maps the ports and disable that when one quits the app. This post has been edited by cheerful: Dec 5 2006, 05:02 PM |

LS is more of a firewall (out going firewall to be exact). Lighthouse is a totally different kind of application. Instead of fiddling with routers' settings the typical way (i.e. thru' a browser setup, airport admin utility or some other software that comes with the router), it kinda interfaces with almost all kind of routers (so it seems).

Yes indeed Cheerful, Little Snitch is ONLY an outgoing firewall, and a great one...
LightHouse is supposed to do on the fly port mapping and allowing you to save profiles so you can easily use different configs according to the environment you connect to (like home, work...). I tested it and I'm not exactly impressed: it does not work with my SAGEM Livebox (wifi adsl modem), probably because it can only ork with UPnP devices... |
