Still have to check my SMC version, I'll do it ASAP. I currently will NOT be attempting to install Windows on this computer until I get assurances that it'll actually work and not 'break my computer'. The highly touted 'windows compatible' garbage is the primary reason I spent several thousand of my hard earned dollars on this system. I am not a happy camper! I understand your disappointment. It's really hard to believe such problems might occur without any answer from Apple. Hope we'll soon find a clue. A member of the French forum just said he had the black (but not the grey) screen syndrom, but managed otherwise to install Vista via BootCamp. Quite surprising. Yet the GPU wasn't working properly with Vista (and I wonder if his version was legally detained). In general, Vista seems to be less a problem than WinXP Hey guys, I've been having this same problem but I'm leaving work about now. I think I MAY have hope for this, which I'm going to look at when I get home tonight. Supposedly, XP doesn't support large Apple Cinema Displays. So you need WinACD - http://sourceforge.net/projects/winacd/ So I am going to install those drivers and see if it works. I hope to god it does, I can't deal without using windows. The adobe suite is FAR too slow right now on intel macs through rosetta, I need to run in windows so I can work. |

I need to run the adobe suite in XP, and I want to play some games. NOT the four or five that Apple currently offer in universal binary. I don't want three year old games! This machine is my work tool. What did I pay for! |

I read that people who complain about bootcamp being a reason are told by apple "sorry, we don't support bootcamp." yes, but many of them can not re-isntall OSX after BootCamp installation failed. second, Apple does not support bootCamp, but advertise widely about it, so in many countries including EU such behavior would be easy to bring to a court. |

New firmware seems to have no affect on the black screen on windows boot. Some else want to try installed via external monitor to see if windows can fix itself once on the desktop?

I haven't gotten any firmware yet - at work now, but I've tried the external monitor. As far as I can see, you can install and run windows through the external VGA monitor, but you can never get the internal display to work. Which is, in my humble opinion, ridiculous. |

There's a new firmware for imacs, including 24" - someone please try it out and let me know if it works!! I'm at work and can't do it myself. |

My new BTO iMac 24" does run Boot Camp with Microsoft Windows XP SP2. Here's the specification of my machine:
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz Memory: 2 GB Boot ROM Version: IM61.0093.B01 SMC Version: 1.10f3 Serial Number: W86430***** PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K06: Firmware Revision: Q609 Please note the newer SMC version (which I have not seen mentioned before in this thread) and the model SuperDrive, which is different from the earlier iMac 24" systems. Also no humming when the brightness of the LCD is low (at least, I can't hear it, except for the spinning of the harddrive and maybe a CPU fan). |

Did the recent EFI update get you up to 10f3 or did you computer arriv like that? Well, I tried up the update, and I still have zero results. No XP here, no screen in bootcamp, nothing. I did however spend 20 mins downloading and installing an update that did nothing noticeable. |

Apple note After the firmware update is successfully applied to your computer, your Boot ROM Version will be: IM41.0055.B08 (early 2006) IM42.0071.B03 (17-inch mid 2006) IM52.0090.B03 (17-inch late 2006 CD) IM51.0090.B03 (20-inch late 2006) IM61.0093.B01 (24-inch) This post has been edited by Curves: Nov 15 2006, 02:19 PM |

So its looking like we are waiting for a update for those of us with 10f2 to bring us up to 10f3. What worries me is if they are already sending machines out with 10f3 why wouldn't the an update be available to everyone. One reason could be a subtle yet significant hardware modifcation. Just for kicks, those of you with 10f3, does you monitor hum when the brightness is lowered?
If this doesn't get fixed then i feel like i am getting ripped off. I bought this machine to replace two machines, my laptop (mac) and desktop (pc). |

I have two iMac 24's purchased within about 2.5 months of each other. The major configuration differences between them are:
iMac1: 2GB RAM, 7600GT, 500GB HD, SN W86360V**** iMac2: 1GB RAM, 7300GT, 250GB HD, SN W86370V**** As reported by System Profiler, everything is identical, except the aforementioned differences. The SMC is 1.10f2 The Superdrives are identical, revision FCQA Both Video cards are ROM Revision 3021, The ONLY difference is the Root ROM Version: iMac1: IM61.0093.B00 iMac2: IM61.0093.B01 iMac1 will setup Windows, iMac 2 will not? -TUX |
