We have been expecting for many months/years that the USB 3.0 will finally arrive to our Mac, and it will be true once Apple finally release all new models based on Ivy Bridge. So, we can start looking at the performance level on the USB 3.0 controller inserted by Intel into its Ivy Bridge. VR-Zone compared it to other solution usually added on motherboards as independent chips. The good news is that Intel's solution offers the best performance level, except in one test. While waiting for the Thunderbolt to become the standard default highthrough put port, it is clear that external drives will rely on USB 3.0, and will quickly take over the Firewire 800 units.
