Dell unveiled its new workstation dedicated to Pro-users, known under as the Precision serie. One can consider them as the direct competitors of Appel Mac Pro. We do not intend to review or advertise Dell hardware, but it is interesting to look at the hardware proposed by other Pc companies to compete with the Mac Pro. Below is the model Precision 7600 powered by two Xeon Sandy Bridge, same CPU we are desperately waiting for in new Mac Pro models.
![]() While the design remains questionable, it can host Xeon CPUs for up to 16 cores. It supports 512 GB of ECC memory, offers 4 PCI-Exoress 16x slots, USB 3.0, a RAID card, 8 enclosures for HDs (4x 3.5" and 4x 2.5"). Teh RAID volume can be set to 0, 1, 5 or 10, and works in SATA II or SAS 3 Gbits/s, while SATA III ports are reserved for optical drives. Prices remain unknown, but will likely be on the high-end, as for the high-end Mac Pro, in such hardware, the cost of CPU accounts for a major part of the overall value.
